In 2013 Rick Jobe moved to Nashville TN after retiring from careers in music teaching, music retail, instrument repair, multimedia production, ordained ministry and college professorship. He founded the eclectic Western Swing band Rick Jobe and the Wonderin’ Cowboys. This band represents a truly American genre, born in the Great Depression, that includes elements of country, jazz, swing, Dixieland and blues music. Rick authentically revives the historic style and adds to the repertoire with his own original songs. The band includes guitar, string bass, fiddle, steel guitar and drums bringing a highly acoustic element into play. The vocal offerings are classic rural American narratives of Texas and Oklahoma and include the roots of those people of the Southeastern United States. It’s fun, happy music that was designed to dispel the doldrums of depression life and it does that well.
The band includes stellar talents (including Grammy winners) who themselves backed up and recorded the likes of Vince Gill, Dave Brubeck, Loretta Lynn and Leon Russell. The addition of excellent local talent from Huntsville AL brings about a poignant mixture that brings joy to musicians and audiences alike.
Opening will be HTMA member Phil Searcy. Phil is a folk-style singer/guitarist with influences going back to James Taylor and Paul Simon. Look for some up-tempo songs as well, liberally sprinkled with humor.
