HTMA Membership

Our members have varied backgrounds, interests and skills. Most members sing and/or play some traditional instrument and usually specialize in a particular musical era, mode or style. However, musical expertise is not a prerequisite for membership. In fact our members are always willing to demonstrate, or give pointers (perhaps even teach) to those non-performing members who are interested in learning how to play an instrument or improve a beginning or innate musical ability.

Also, there is a good data base of knowledge within the association of people and places who can assist in musical instruction and/or instrument procurement, repair ... or even buillding one's own in some cases. Instruments most typical to our monthly sessions and performances are dulcimer, autoharp, mandolin, old-time four and/or five string banjos, guitar, fiddle, harmonica, flutes and various other early wind and stringed instruments, mouth bows, Jews harps and home-made rhythm instruments.

How To Become A Member

If you are interested in promoting, playing, preserving, or just generally participating in this kind of wholesome, do-it-yourself music - and enjoy the down-home and informal style of socializing, come on down and sit a spell with us at our next meeting. We'd be delighted to have your help and support! Visitors are welcome anytime!

Cost of membership is $10 per year for students, $15 per year for individuals, or $20 per year for a family. Members are admitted free to most association events. We meet every Saturday at 1pm in the HTMA Studio #1038 at Lowe Mill for our weekly jam.

Once again, you DO NOT have to play an instrument or sing to be a member of HTMA. All you need is an interest in home-style, fold and old-time music. You will find it difficult, however, to resist participating yourself! And, if you do, you'll have found a very supportive group of friends and helpers!
